Polyzois Makras is a military physician and Endocrinologist. He serves as Director of the Department of Endocrinology and the Diabetes Clinic at the 251 Hellenic Air Force General Hospital in Athens, as well as Director of the Hospital’s Research Department.

He received his medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1994 and subsequently completed his postgraduate medical training in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism in Athens. He obtained his PhD from the School of Medicine at Democritus University of Thrace and subsequently completed two years of further training (2006–2008) as a Clinical Fellow in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands.
